Network Architect
Working for Open Cosmos
Aim high, go beyond! At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in the Connectivity Team
Our connectivity team is responsible for designing and delivering the communication backbone that links Open Cosmos’ satellite systems to users on the ground. From inter-satellite links to gateways, terminals, and cloud infrastructure, we ensure secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity across all layers of the Satcom system.
We work closely with platform, payload, software, and ground segment teams to define system-wide network architectures that support next-generation services like IoT, private networks, 5G/6G NTN, and secure tactical communications.
What will you be doing?
As Network Architect, you will lead the design and evolution of the end-to-end network architecture for Open Cosmos’ Satcom services. You will shape the connectivity layer that integrates satellite platforms, RF and optical inter-satellite links, gateway infrastructure, and terrestrial backhaul.
You will be responsible for defining and optimising network topologies, protocols, and routing strategies to meet service-level requirements for coverage, latency, resilience, and throughput. You will also help develop digital twin models and network planning tools to support mission simulations, service rollouts, and autonomous operations.
You will act as a key interface between technical and business stakeholders, ensuring the network design aligns with customer demands, regulatory constraints, and evolving market trends. Your work will lay the foundation for how our constellations communicate and scale as our services grow.
What you need to be successful
We care about what you can do and how you think. If this role excites you, we want to hear from you, even if you are not sure you tick every box.
Different seniority levels will be assessed for this role.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Extensive expertise in designing and optimizing large-scale IP-based satellite or hybrid communication networks, including terrestrial and non-terrestrial segments.
- Deep understanding of core network protocols and architectures, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6), QoS mechanisms, and traffic engineering.
- Expertise in network orchestration, virtualisation (e.g., SDN/NFV), and end-to-end service provisioning across multi-domain environments.
- Understanding of network modelling, simulation, and planning, including capacity planning, failover analysis, and path optimisation for dynamic topologies.
- Hands-on knowledge of network monitoring, performance benchmarking, and fault diagnostics using modern tooling and automation frameworks.
- Understanding of satellite-specific constraints and architectures, including inter-satellite links (ISL), ground segment integration, user terminal interactions, and mesh network design.
- Knowledge of security standards and best practices in mission-critical or defense-grade networks, including encryption, authentication, and secure routing protocols.
- Knowledge of 5G/6G NTN integration and emerging standards relevant to satellite-based communications is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, able to coordinate with cross-functional teams and translate network architecture decisions into actionable implementation plans.
