Satcoms Systems Team Lead
Working for Open Cosmos
Aim high, go beyond! At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in the Satcoms Systems Team
The satcoms systems team is responsible for modelling, simulating, and continuously optimising the performance of Open Cosmos’ satellite communication infrastructure. This includes the space segment, inter-satellite links, terminals, and ground connectivity, ensuring our end-to-end systems deliver reliable, efficient, and scalable service under dynamic conditions.
We work with cutting-edge technologies such as digital twins, autonomous networks, and large-scale constellation models. The team plays a key role in design validation, mission planning, and performance-driven engineering decision-making.
What will you be doing?
As Satcoms Systems Team Lead, you will drive the product strategy for Open Cosmos' satellite communications offering, overseeing roadmaps for platforms, payloads, terminals, and connectivity services. Leading a multidisciplinary team, you’ll work across engineering, regulatory, commercial, and operations functions to ensure system coherence and smooth transitions from design to operations.
Your leadership will be instrumental in turning user needs into clear system requirements, prioritising impactful features, and guiding product evolution to match customer demands and market trends. You’ll also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define use cases, guide adaptations, and ensure value delivery—playing a key role in positioning Open Cosmos as a leader in satellite communications.
What you need to be successful
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Ability to lead system-level product development in satellite communications, aerospace, or complex telecom environments.
- Practical understanding of satellite system architectures, including satellite platforms, RF/optical payloads, inter-satellite links, ground segment, terminals, and network service layers.
- Proven ability to translate customer requirements and use cases into system-level designs and product roadmaps, balancing performance, cost, and technical feasibility.
- Ability to apply system engineering practices, including requirements engineering, trade studies, performance modelling, and interface definition across hardware and software domains.
- Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams, ensuring alignment between subsystems, end-to-end service delivery, and regulatory and operational constraints.
- Practical knowledge of emerging Satcom domains, such as IoT/M2M, private networks, secure communications, 5G/6G NTN, and digital twin-based system analysis.
- Ability to manage the product lifecycle—from mission concept and feasibility through design, integration, validation, and commercialisation.
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities, with the ability to interface across technical, commercial, and customer environments to drive product/system alignment.
- Hands-on knowledge of system tools and methodologies (e.g., FLOW, MBSE, FMECA, CONOPS, performance modelling)
- Department
- Satcom
- Locations
- Barcelona, Spain
