AIT (Assembly, Integration & Test) Technician
Working for Open Cosmos
Aim high, go beyond! At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in the AIT Team
The AIT team is at the heart of turning ideas into real, orbit-ready satellites. They’re the workshop where Open Cosmos missions come to life — taking designs from paper to physical hardware.
From assembling delicate electronic boards to fitting structural panels, wiring harnesses, and payloads, AIT ensures everything fits and functions flawlessly. They run rigorous testing — vibration, thermal vacuum, functional, and performance checks — to make sure each satellite can survive the extreme conditions of launch and space.
It’s hands-on, fast-paced, and mission-critical - it doesn’t get much cooler than this!
What will you be doing?
Building our satellites is at the heart of an AIT Technicians job. You’ll also integrate the satellites into the launcher ready for the journey into space!
You will be manufacturing some of the subsystems and harnesses that will be integrated into the satellites.
Throughout the AIT campaign, you will not only be assembling the satellite, but also supporting prototyping and modifications of electronics boards and harnesses. You may be required to travel to some of our other locations to support workload punctually.
You will also support aspects relating to quality and stock management, keeping clear and appropriate documentation. Throughout all stages you are engaging with colleagues from R&D and AIT departments.
What you need to be successful
- You have a strong knowledge of soldering and capability of doing this to high standards
- You know how to create harnesses, do crimpings and route harnesses into complex assemblies
- You understand the practical implications of working in a clean room environment and apply this in your work
- You’ll be proactive and curious in your approach to work, always looking for more effective ways of doing things
- You are familiar with ECSS and IPC standards for harness and electronics inspection and manufacturing.
