Electronics Engineer (Power)
Aim high, go beyond!
At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in our Chief Technology Office (CTO)
The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. Covering engineering, product development, and technical innovation, the team designs, builds, and operates the satellites, systems, and platforms that make our missions possible. It’s a highly collaborative environment where ideas become real hardware, software, and data solutions that deliver impact from space.
The Electronics team is where the magic happens - from power systems and flight computers to comms boards and payload interfaces, they make sure every mission succeeds. It’s creative, hands-on, and mission-critical work — solving tricky problems, testing every circuit, and making sure our satellites are ready to thrive in the toughest environment of all: Space.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Electronics Engineer you’ll be a key contributor to the design, development, and maintenance of our satellite Electronic Power System (EPS). You’ll work closely with the Senior Engineer and cross-functional teams to ensure the power system is robust, reliable and high-performing. This is hands-on role covering the full product lifecycle, from initial design concepts to streamlining production.
As a member of the Electronics Team, you will:
Conduct design and validation of power electronics circuits across the EPS architecture from solar panel design to BMS to distribution modules
Driving and implementing DFM practices and design principles to streamline assembly and maximise yield
Designing and executing comprehensive test plans throughout the product lifecycle from prototype through to verification testing
Maintaining documentation, changelogs and future development planning for mature designs
Contributing to innovative designs for next-generation satellite power systems
PCB design and schematic capture
Working in close cross-disciplinary with the other Engineering teams to ensure compatibility of the EPS with mission requirements
What You’ll Bring
Core competency in power electronics design
Demonstrated expertise in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design and noise reduction techniques
Strong ability in analogue and digital circuit design from schematic capture to adept PCB layout
Awareness of design-for-space principles
Proven hands-on experience in testing, debugging and troubleshooting electronics at component & system level
Confidence in understanding of embedded systems and MCUs used, programming ability would be of significant advantage
Quality orientated approach to design and development
Familiarity with DFM principles would be of great benefit
A strong communicator with excellent verbal and written skills for discussing technical issues and solutions.
Eager to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced engineering environment.
