Electronics Engineer (Power) Intern
Aim high, go beyond!
At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in our Chief Technology Office (CTO)
The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. Covering engineering, product development, and technical innovation, the team designs, builds, and operates the satellites, systems, and platforms that make our missions possible. It’s a highly collaborative environment where ideas become real hardware, software, and data solutions that deliver impact from space.
The Electronics team is where the magic happens - from power systems and flight computers to comms boards and payload interfaces, they make sure every mission succeeds. It’s creative, hands-on, and mission-critical work — solving tricky problems, testing every circuit, and making sure our satellites are ready to thrive in the toughest environment of all: space.
What will you be doing?
As a member of the Electronics Team, you will:
Assist in the design and validation of power electronics circuits across the EPS architecture, from solar panel design to BMS to distribution modules.
Support the implementation of DFM practices and design principles to streamline assembly and maximize yield.
Help design and execute comprehensive test plans throughout the product lifecycle, from prototype through to verification testing.
Contribute to maintaining documentation, changelogs, and future development planning for mature designs.
Support innovative designs for next-generation satellite power systems.
Learn and assist with PCB design and schematic capture.
Work in close cross-disciplinary teams with other Engineering teams to ensure compatibility of the EPS with mission requirements.
What You’ll bring
A foundational understanding of power electronics design.
Basic ability in analogue and digital circuit design, from schematic capture to PCB layout.
An understanding of design-for-space principles.
Some hands-on experience in testing, debugging, and troubleshooting electronics at a component or system level. From industry or hobbyist.
Familiarity with embedded systems and MCUs used; programming ability would be an advantage.
A strong communicator with good verbal and written skills for discussing technical issues and solutions.
Eager to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced engineering environment.
This role will be based onsite at our premises in Harwell, Oxfordshire.
