Working in our Data Division

Our Data division transforms satellite data into meaningful insights that drive real-world impact. The team delivers all data products generated by Open Cosmos and its partners, curates and develops DataCosmos — our geospatial data platform — and builds integrations that make satellite imagery easy to access and act on. Their work helps organisations turn data into action and create positive change on Earth.

We’re looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to join our DataCosmos team, helping build and maintain the software and services that deliver satellite data to our customers. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with cloud-native technologies, learning from experienced engineers, and contributing to real systems that power the OpenConstellation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone at the start of their engineering journey who’s eager to develop strong software fundamentals and apply them in the fast-moving world of space technology.

What will you be doing?

• Support the development of new backend features and services for the DataCosmos platform.

• Help maintain and improve existing systems, fixing bugs and enhancing performance.

• Learn and apply best practices in Go and/or Python, testing, and cloud-native development.

• Participate in code reviews, CI/CD workflows, and agile ceremonies alongside experienced engineers.

• Collaborate across teams to understand customer needs and ensure your work delivers measurable impact.

• Contribute to a reliable, scalable, and efficient platform that keeps our satellite data flowing.

What You’ll bring

• Familiarity with at least one programming language (Go, Python, or similar).

• Basic understanding of version control (Git), databases (PostgreSQL), and web services (REST, gRPC).

• Curiosity about cloud technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.

• Understanding of computer science fundamentals and software development practices.

• A problem-solving mindset, strong attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.

• Great communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced team.
