The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. The Electronics team is where the magic happens - from power systems and flight computers to comms boards and payload interfaces, they make sure every mission succeeds. It’s creative, hands-on, and mission-critical work — solving tricky problems, testing every circuit, and making sure our satellites are ready to thrive in the toughest environment of all: Space.
The role of The Electronics Operations Engineer role supports the technical, quality, and governance aspects of electronic component and PCBA procurement. The position operates at the interface between engineering, procurement, quality, and external PCBA suppliers, with responsibility for maintaining component libraries, specifications, supplier technical alignment, and obsolescence risk management.
What You'll Be Doing
Identification and management of a library of critical electronic parts, including long-lead-time and high-risk components
Coordination with the Inventory Coordinator to maintain appropriate stock levels for critical items
Ownership and maintenance of the Approved Materials Database
Definition, ownership, and maintenance of the EEE Part Selection process across designs
Technical point of contact for PCBA suppliers and the internal supply chain team
Execution of simpler PCBA design changes based on supplier queries or suggestions
Resolution of technical queries from suppliers
Management of quality topics between QPA and Supply Chain
Configuration of PCBA design tools to match supplier capabilities & tolerances
Ownership and maintenance of the PCBA Manufacturing Specification
Standardisation of specifications across suppliers and programmes
Support of traceability, compliance, and repeatability across PCBA builds
Governance of component libraries to ensure accuracy, control, and approved supplier alignment
Support to design teams through reliable component and supplier data
Use of Altium Designer to own & manage the component & document template library
What You’ll Bring
Knowledge typical electronic components, EEE parts, and PCBA manufacturing processes
Able to interpret & understand EEE component datasheets
Understanding of component lifecycle, obsolescence, and long-lead-time risk
Knowledge of PCBA manufacturing capabilities & limitations
Familiarity with procurement and quality interfaces in regulated or high-reliability environments
Knowledge of component databases, approved materials lists, and part governance frameworks
Awareness of ERP systems for component and materials management (e.g. NetSuite)
Use of Altium designer for component library management
This role will be based in Harwell, UK (hybrid Position)
