About the team
You’ll be joining our Dependability & Thermal Team, part of the wider Systems Team at Open Cosmos.
Our Systems Team brings together experts across systems, AOCS, and thermal engineering to design, integrate, and optimise every element of our satellites—from overall architecture down to the detail of each subsystem. They own the journey from early concept through to launch and operations, making sure everything fits, works, and performs in orbit.
Within this, the Dependability & Thermal Team is responsible for ensuring our systems are reliable, resilient, and built to last. We lead on reliability engineering, radiation assessment, and thermal analysis, as well as the tools and processes that underpin them. Our goal is simple: to make sure every system and subsystem is designed, validated, and operated to deliver consistent performance throughout the mission lifecycle.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role you’ll take ownership of RAMS activities across missions, applying your expertise to analyse, improve, and influence the reliability and resilience of our spacecraft systems.
This includes:
Owning reliability activities across projects, from early design through to mission operations
Performing detailed reliability analysis, including failure modes, failure rates, and system-level assessments
Leading radiation analysis and defining mitigation strategies to ensure mission success
Planning and running test campaigns, and turning results into clear engineering insights
Driving FMEA activities and helping teams identify and mitigate risks early
Defining and implementing FDIR strategies across subsystems and missions
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to shape designs and improve system robustness
Providing clear RAMS input into design decisions, trade-offs, and risk discussions
Contributing to the continuous improvement of our tools, processes, and ways of working
What You’ll Bring
A solid grounding in reliability, systems, or electronics engineering
The ability to take ownership of technical work and see it through end-to-end
Strong analytical skills, with experience tackling complex engineering problems
Confidence working across teams and contributing to technical discussions
Programming or scripting skills to support analysis or automation
A good understanding of how systems fail and how to design for resilience
Familiarity with RAMS concepts, tools, or standards (or similar structured engineering approaches)
A proactive mindset—you don’t just spot problems, you help solve them
For this role you can be based in any of our locations.
To apply, you must have the legal right to work in your chosen location.
Please submit your application in English.
