Senior Network Engineer
Aim high, go beyond!
At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
The Satcom team is responsible for the design, delivery and performance of Open Cosmos’ satellite communications services, spanning the space segment, ground infrastructure and global connectivity.
As we continue building out our next-generation Satcom platform, we’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer to turn network architecture into resilient, high-performance transport capabilities across a dynamic LEO constellation environment.
What will you be doing?
You will be:
Implementing and customising advanced routing protocols including Segment Routing (SR-MPLS/SRv6) and IS-IS for highly dynamic LEO network topologies
Developing and integrating custom on-board router platforms using specialised hardware and modern network operating systems
Working across control plane and forwarding plane integration to support high-throughput packet processing
Designing and executing large-scale network simulations and Digital Twin environments to validate network behaviour under orbital dynamics
Validating high-speed forwarding performance, protocol convergence, resilience, and network stability under failure conditions
Supporting seamless mobility and user terminal handover mechanisms to maintain low-latency service continuity
Building and optimising network transport capabilities for high-throughput, distributed satellite communication systems
Collaborating with architecture and platform engineering teams to align implementation with system design objectives
Identifying technical constraints, integration risks, and performance limitations to support roadmap and architectural evolution
Supporting iterative prototyping, testing, and validation activities across both software and hardware networking environments
What You’ll bring
Strong understanding of advanced routing protocols including Segment Routing (SR-MPLS and/or SRv6) and IS-IS
Capability to implement and customise routing behaviour within highly dynamic and distributed networks
Knowledge of modern Network Operating Systems such as SONiC and routing platforms such as FRRouting
Understanding of control plane and data plane architectures, including hardware forwarding integration
Knowledge of high-performance networking concepts including throughput, latency, PPS performance, and hardware acceleration
Familiarity with specialised networking hardware including SoC-FPGA-based platforms
Proficiency in building and operating large-scale network simulation and emulation environments
Understanding of network resilience, convergence behaviour, and stability under rapidly changing topologies
Knowledge of mobility management and seamless handover strategies within distributed communication systems
Awareness of how orbital dynamics influence network topology, routing behaviour, and latency across LEO systems
This role will be based in any of our locations.
To apply, you must have the legal right to work in your chosen location.
