AIT Engineer
Aim high, go beyond!
At Open Cosmos we are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, providing businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before - ready for the challenge? Then read on…
Working in our Chief Technology Office (CTO)
The CTO division is where Open Cosmos technology comes to life. Covering engineering, product development, and technical innovation, the team designs, builds, and operates the satellites, systems, and platforms that make our missions possible. It’s a highly collaborative environment where ideas become real hardware, software, and data solutions that deliver impact from space.
The AIT team is at the heart of turning ideas into real, orbit-ready satellites. They’re the workshop where Open Cosmos missions come to life — taking designs from paper to physical hardware.
From assembling delicate electronic boards to fitting structural panels, wiring harnesses, and payloads, AIT ensures everything fits and functions flawlessly. They run rigorous testing — vibration, thermal vacuum, functional, and performance checks — to make sure each satellite can survive the extreme conditions of launch and space.
It’s hands-on, fast-paced, and mission-critical - it doesn’t get much cooler than this!
What You'll Be Doing
You will be:
Developing and executing spacecraft Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) plans and procedures
Leading satellite integration activities including mechanical assembly, electrical integration, and subsystem validation
Defining test campaigns for spacecraft and subsystems including functional, environmental, and performance testing
Supporting the development and verification of electrical harnesses, payload integration, and subsystem interfaces
Analyzing test results and troubleshoot anomalies, working closely with subsystem engineers to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Preparing and maintaining AIT documentation including procedures, test reports, and configuration records
Ensuring compliance with cleanroom, ESD, and quality assurance processes during all integration activities
Supporting environmental testing campaigns such as vibration, thermal vacuum, and functional validation
Contributing to satellite launch campaign preparation, including final functional verification and integration into deployers or launch adapters
Supporting continuous improvement of AIT processes, tooling, and documentation to improve efficiency and quality
What You’ll Bring
Strong understanding of spacecraft systems and subsystem integration
Ability to develop and execute integration and test procedures
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical spacecraft interfaces including harnessing and subsystem integration
Familiarity with laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and data acquisition systems
Ability to interpret system schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), and engineering drawings
Ability to analyse test results and resolve integration or system anomalies
Strong documentation and configuration management practices
Understanding of environmental testing processes including vibration and thermal vacuum testing
